Early Pincher Creek businesses reflected the agricultural trading nature of this settlement. Relive the Prairie Canadian frontier with tales of the Scott Block, the Union Bank, Arlington Hotel, the Lebel Block, and the Pincher Creek Echo. Participants would be expected to wear appropriate outdoor clothing and foot wear, depending upon weather and suitable for walking.

Historical Walking Tour: The North Side of Pincher Creek

Relive the heritage of the non-commercialized portion of town, located north of the Creek. Tour the unique heritage of the elite and working class residential districts which dot the landscape, much of which has an agricultural history component. The far west end of town was remembered for its agricultural estates and large residences which had NWMP and professional origins. This frontier heritage is highlighted in this tour. A vast array of church, school, town hall, and NWMP buildings, some which physically remain and some which are vividly recalled, will highlight this tour. Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village guided tour by staff and volunteer docents
Meet at the front desk of Pioneer Place for an intriguing step back into time as you tour through Pincher Creek’s premiere heritage facility, the Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village. Ponder pioneer life in this unique corner of the Canadian frontier as you visit the authentic 1883 cabin of our colourful forefather John George “Kootenai” Brown and our two ranch houses – the family owned Cox House and the corporate Waldrond Ranch house as well as the original Father Lacombe Hermitage organized by Alberta’s famed missionary and an array of additional intriguing heritage buildings. Tastefully exhibited and encouraging the local history buff to further explore the nooks and crannies of our vibrant history, these structures truly bespeak of an intriguing heritage era.
